Hotel Goddess Marlene Jobert

Marlene Jobert is famous mostly for being a French movie star at a time when French movie stars were French movie stars! She was up there with Isabelle Huppert, Bulle Ogier, Sandrine Bonnaire and Sylvia Kristel. But she threw it all away to write stories for children.

Hotel Kranepool recently heard that la Jobert is due to publish a children’s story set in a hotel. So we were curious. An old Hollywood-on-the-Seine connection clicked. A telephone rang, somewhere in the French countryside.

Hotel Kranepool: Bonjour Marlene, we heard you’re interested in hotels these days.

Marlene Jobert:  Oh, I’ve always been interested in hotels. Especially the ones where Alain Delon was staying too. I love hotels because they’re so impersonal and yet so intimate. You rent a room, do whatever you want in it, and then you don’t have to clean it up in the morning.

Hotel Kranepool: Is that what your new children’s story’s about? Making a mess with impunity?

Marlene Jobert: It’s about a gang of kids who wander through a forest and happen upon an old abandoned hotel. They go inside, and discover the whole place has been occupied by animals.

Hotel Kranepool: You know, Hotel Kranepool is a non-specist establishment. We’re animal-friendly. Same-sex animal couples can book suites, as long as they’re accompanied by adult humans, who can also be same-sex couples.

Marlene Jobert: That’s great, but remember, this is a book for children. Back in my movie days, I had lots of offers to do nude scenes, but I wanted to be remembered as a face with a mind and a voice, not just a body. My freckles made me a highly unusual screen goddess, back then. The public’s more accepting of such things now, I hope. I haven’t been to see a movie in years.

Hotel Kranepool: We provide cable television in every Suite, and our guests can discreetly enjoy adult films for a nominal surcharge. 

Marlene Jobert: Now that I think of it, I haven’t stayed at a hotel in ages, either. I’m just fine right here where I live. I go to the beach and no one recognizes me. I still wear the same bikini I wore when I was a movie star, though.

Hotel Kranepool: We’ve had a few celebrity guests, including…

Marlene Jobert: Oh stop it. Enough of this farce. If you want to put fake pictures of me without my clothes on in your weekly chronicle, there’s nothing I can do about it.

Hotel Kranepool ha saputo che la Jobert pubblicherà prossimamente un racconto per ragazzi ambientato in un hotel.

Eravamo curiosi. Una vecchia connessione con Hollywood-sulla-Senna scattò. Squillò un telefono, da qualche parte nella campagna francese.

Hotel Kranepool: Bonjour Marlene, abbiamo saputo che in questi giorni ti interessi di hotel.

Marlene Jobert:  Come sarebbe a dire, in questi giorni? Gli alberghi mi intrigano da sempre. Specialmente quelli in cui alloggiava anche Alain Delon. Amo gli hotel perché sono così impersonali e allo stesso tempo così intimi. Prendi una stanza, ci fai ciò che ti pare, e la mattina dopo non la devi rimettere in ordine.

Hotel Kranepool: La tua nuova storia per ragazzi tratta di fare casino con impunità?

Marlene Jobert:  In un certo senso. Tratta di un gruppo di ragazzi adolescenti che girano per una foresta, e vi trovano un vecchio hotel abbandonato. Entrano, e scoprono che lo stabile è stato occupato da animali.

Hotel Kranepool: Dovresti sapere che Hotel Kranepool è un locale anti-specista. Siamo animal-friendly al cento percento. Anche le coppie omosessuali di animali posso occupare le nostre suite, a patto che siano accompagnati da esseri umani adulti. Che naturalmente possono essere coppie omosessuali anche loro.

Marlene Jobert: Fantastico, ma teniamo a mente che si tratta di un libro per ragazzi. Quando lavoravo nel cinema, volevano che facessi sempre più scene senza veli, ma preferivo essere ricordata come un corpo con un volto e una mente e una voce. Le mie lentiggini fecero di me una stella del cinema insolita, all’epoca. Il pubblico di oggi è più tollerante, almeno spero. Sono anni che non vado a vedere un film.

Hotel Kranepool: Ogni nostra Suite è provvista di televisore, e i nostri graditi ospiti posso discretamente visionare film per soli adulti ad un moderato costo supplementare.

Marlene Jobert: Ora che ci penso, sono anni che non vado nemmeno più in albergo. Sto bene qui dove vivo. Vado in spiaggia e nessuno mi riconosce. Anche se, modestamente, mi metto gli stessi bikini che portavo quando ero una stella del cinema.
