Al centro dell'operazione espressiva troviamo sempre la restituzione di un sogno immobile e concluso, il corrispettivo visivo di una illuminazione onirica. Una scalinata vuota si staglia contro il cielo, una luce misteriosa imprigiona le architetture dentro un'atmosfera di inquieta sospensione, ogni luogo brilla collocato fuori dal tempo. Anche nell'altro versante del suo lavoro - le opere non figurative in cui il colore domina la scena come unico attore – questa sensazione di incantamento ipnotico resta un elemento della massima importanza.
In the multiplicity of subjects that through the years have been deposited within Andrew Smaldone's painting - deer glimpsed in the dense forest, solitary plants with leaves stretched out toward nothingness, ghostly rooms with bare walls - one fundamental element remains unchanged. At the center of the expressive operation we always find the restitution of a still and concluded dream, the visual counterpart of a dreamlike illumination. An empty staircase is silhouetted against the sky, a mysterious light imprisons the architecture within an atmosphere of restless suspension, each place shines placed outside of time. Even in the other side of his work-the non-figurative works in which color dominates the scene as the sole actor-this feeling of hypnotic enchantment remains an element of the utmost importance.

Andrew Smaldone è nato nel 1978 a Denver, Colorado USA. Smaldone realizza lavori in cui superficie, colore e spazio sono primari, un processo avviato nel 2005 durante i suoi studi presso il Central Saint Martins di Londra. Ha vinto vari premi importanti come la Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant nel 2015 e sono molte le esposizioni negli Stati Uniti, in Europa e nel Regno Unito.
