Skidmarks on My Heart

by Jay Kiel

I was just about to take a sip of my cocktail when he walked up to me and grabbed it out of my hand.

"Don't drink that," he said, dumping it out into an ashtray.

"What-why??" I sputtered, too shocked to be angry.

"Your little boyfriend in the john slipped you a fast one. I saw him from my table."

He was a heavyset older man in a tracksuit with jowls and a full head of neatly groomed silver curls. He had the swagger of an elderly Tony Curtis and spoke with a heavy lisp. His sausage-like fingers were dotted with thick gold rings.

"Are you sure?" I asked. I felt certain I had been watching my drink carefully.

"He's got some little doo-dad on the underside of his watch," he said. "See if he doesn't skedaddle when he spots me sitting here holding your glass."

Sure enough, the handsome man in the elegant suit who had paid for my drink took one look at us as he came out of the men's room and made a beeline for the exit. My new friend downplayed my dismay.

"Honey, I've seen it a thousand times, but I'll never understand it. Here you are, a beautiful woman, sitting alone in a hotel bar with your melons on parade. What more could a man want? Maybe he's a mortician and can only get it up if you aren't moving!"

The intended victim!

We introduced ourselves. His name was Arnold Peterman and he was a retired airline steward from the states. He ordered another drink and let the bartender set it in front of me.

"Hotels attract all kinds of scum, you know," said Arnold. "I've been in hundreds of 'em all over the world, and men are the same everywhere. I'm sure you've had your share."

"Yes," I said, "but that one caught me off guard. He didn't seem like someone who would need to do that."

"Those rich men in shiny suits are the worst! They think they can do anything to you and get away with it. Who knows what sick shit he had waiting for you back in his room."

I shuddered and wondered aloud if we should call the cops.

"Cops are no help," said Arnold. "A rich john like that? They'd probably throw him a parade. No my dear, the only way is to take justice into your own hands. Let me tell you a story..."

We made our way over to a booth. I calmed my nerves with another drink as Arnold kept up a steady flow of chatter.

The suave saviour!

"I wasn't always a silver fox, you know. In my youth I was a stunner. Air travel was wonderfully stimulating. I was like Dolores Hart in Come Fly With Me, only I knew my way around a dick. My two best friends were called Joey and Patricio. We would always try to sync up our routes and paint the town red on our nights off. The horny old men in first class used to throw the dirtiest looks when they saw one of us marys slinking down the aisle with their peanuts and Coke! But the adventure was worth it. We got as many phone numbers as the girls sometimes.

"One night we were laid over in this very hotel, back in its heyday. We were coked to the tits, and on our way out to cruise the piazza. I opened the door and suddenly there's this chick lying naked in a heap outside our room! I recognized her right away. Her name was Aurora. I had met her a few times right in this bar. Sometimes when her butch was out of town she would dress up pretty and come here to make a few bucks. We brought her around with some coffee and gave her a bathrobe. She told us that some trick had slipped her a mickey and been doing god-knows-what to her in the room right next door!

"We sprang into action. The plan was to barge in and beat the shit out of the bastard. But there was no answer when we pounded on his door. Joey jimmied the lock open with his credit card. We found the guy passed out cold. Sawing logs and stinking of booze. He wasn't bad-looking. 30's, in shape, hairy, a wedding ring on his night stand. We hunted around for his wallet. He had a fat roll, which we gave to Aurora, along with her clothes. I also found a little address book, which gave me an idea. I told Patricio to run and get his Instamatic and his cosmetics bag. The address book I put in my pocket, then I yanked the coverlet off of Sleeping Beauty.

"He was on his side, in a dingy pair of Fruit-of-the-Looms. Joey found his electric shaver and removed a big chunk of his hair. Right up the center in back and across the top. When Patricio returned, we went to town on the guy with mascara, writing exactly what he was all over his body. Then we snatched the wedding ring off his nightstand, and carried his body down to the trash bags in the back alley. Patricio and I took head and feet, while Joey played lookout and got the doors for us. We laid him over a pile of garbage, ass-up.

"Patricio got the camera ready, but Joey stopped him. 'Not enough!' he said. 'Get his panties down.' I went for the guy's underwear. As I began to pull them down, a terrible stench hit me in the face. You can probably guess what I found: A huge brown skidmark sitting directly across from his unwashed asshole. We all gagged and had a good cluck. Then Joey noticed the pièce de résistance; this bastard's long-suffering wife had sewn his name into the back of his underpants! We used every shot left in the Instamatic to document our handywork, then continued on with our evening.

The Anal Rape-o creep!

"In the morning we took the film to a Sviluppo Rapido and grabbed some stationary from a tourist kiosk. The pictures came out great. Over caffè we addressed envelopes to every woman in the creep's address book. Slipped photos into every one with 'Wish you were here!" and 'Having a wonderful time!' written on the back. One picture we set aside. It went to his mother-in-law, along with his wedding ring."

Arnold cackled at the memory. "What I wouldn't give to know how the rest of his saga played out!"

I hardly knew what to say to this anecdote. I felt too sick at my near-escape to laugh but it did make me feel better. "I hope he didn't just pass it off as a prank," I said, suddenly wishing Arnold and his friends had done some permanent damage.

"Oh no," replied Arnold, shaking his head, "I'm sure he was full of excuses, but there was no escaping that skidmark. Any woman that had ever touched his dirty laundry surely knew that was the real deal!"

The evidence! The revenge!

Poo-poo panties! Oh my!

Ero come Dolores Hart in Come Fly With Me, solo che io sapevo decisamente come maneggiare un cazzo.

"Siamo entrati in azione.

Orrore! Orrore!

Segni indelebili di un delitto!

“L’ho scampata bella! Grazie, Hotel Kranepool!”
